I was also a regular in the VIP area of Studio 54 and got to chat with Magic Johnson... drinks with John O'Hurley...dancing with Oscar De La Hoya... gee, that was a long time ago...Also did some extra work on movies and was able to go to cast parties to dance and eat with Julia Roberts, Billy Crystal, John Cusack, Catherine Zeta-Jones, & Christopher Walken... and the last one I'll toss in is John Corbett who showed up at my Barchlorette party and gave me a hug and a sweet kiss and posed for a picture with me, at the time, I had no idea who this guy was, I just thought my friends wanted me to take a picture with a random hot guy.  LOL!

03-16-10 = Learning to fly....but I don't have wings...

I love to fly... in my dreams. I can really fly in them. It is an amazing thing. I can zoom around in the air, soaring up high, or hovering low. I have no fear or anxiety when I'm flying. I would even venture to say it is my preferred method of transportation.

So why is it that I'm not a fan of flying in a plane? My hands seem to sweat thinking of it.

I think it's time to make a leap of faith. I wanna fly, but not just in my dreams. I want to look down from up high and see the world below me from new heights...I'm going skydiving.

My hands start to sweat thinking about it. Why does something I feel so good about in my dreams make my heart race when I'm awake...it's time to put that one to sleep...LOL!

03-08-10 - Mr. Mom

I often feel like the luckiest woman/mother/wife alive. Lately it has been heavier on the luckiest wife side. My husband truly is Superman/Super-daddy/Super-husband! This was the view as I walked out the door for work the other morning. Here he is making sure everyone is taken care of...what a gem! I love him!!! Thanks honey!

03-05-10 - Whoa...What a Wild Friday Night!

It's Friday night...just me and the kids...who were both sleeping up until my fingers hit the key board just now.

My little squirrel Aviana is laying on her play mat beside me, batting at the dragonfly on her Bright Stars toy bar. She loves to suck on the wings. Pulling on it she sets off the music above it and the lights on the smiley, sunny face blink....the songs have played about 10 times already. Her death grip is on the poor dragonfly.

Cobe is fast asleep...what a day...he did not nap at the sitters today so I put him down at 5:15 and let him sleep a good REM cycle of 90 mins....he ate copious amounts of food for a 23 month old...leftover pot pie...pasta...rice...juice...and 2 Nilla Wafers for dessert! I kept him up 'til almost 9 and he went to bed like a dream...looking at me so sweetly and patting his sister's arm while we all lay in the 'big bed'. I turned out the light and made up some song about sleeping and dreams and he floated off, but not before I rocked him in my arms and put him in his bed.

Yup, it was a wonderful evening...aside from the hysterical fit Cobe had about the plastic IKEA fork on his high chair tray...I know...it was odd...and now as the songs from the toy bar have stopped, I look down to see that my little squirrel has fallen back to sleep...I guess it's time to let out the dogs and call it a night...don't let the bed bugs bite!

03-01-2010 - Tweet This...

While following Twitter today I read this tweet:
MOPS_Int RT @MomSenseMag: Ponder this today – when my child is 30, I want him to remember (what) from his childhood?

Reading the following blog made me realize that I want my kids to know that I wish them "enough"...

At an airport I overheard a father and daughter in their last moments together. They had announced her plane’s departure and standing near the door She said, “Daddy, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Daddy.” They kissed good-bye and she left. He walked over toward the window where I was seated.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish enough “Hello’s” to get you through the final “Good-bye.”

And today, I wish you enough, too.

02-26-2010 - Almost Two

Time does really fly...every year seems to get faster and faster. It is hard to believe that my little guy is 23 months old today...almost two! I look at all of the things he can do and it amazes me. Once so dependent on Mommy and Daddy he know lets us know he wants to do things his own way, in his own way, of course.

I often wonder how he figures things out. He likes to feed the dogs. He has been doing this for a few months. But what I don't get is how he knew how to split the dog food between two bowls. We had always just got two scoops and put one in each dish...no, not him. He takes one big scoop and puts a little in one dish and a little in the other dish. Kids...they are amazing.

02-22-2010 - Please, don't drink from the toilet....*sigh*

Oh, the fun things toddlers do. Some days seem to be filled with "don't do that" moments;
DON'T...
- drink from the toilet.
- drink from the bidet.
- drink from the dog dish.
- hit your sister.
- shut the door on the dog.
- kick the dog.
- lick the dog's tongue.
- pee on the floor.
- touch poo.
- touch the oven.
- eat off the floor.
- eat out of the trash can.
...all within a 2 hour window yesterday. LOL!

02-17-2010 - Shooting a Friend

...err, well, maybe I should have said 'injecting' a friend. Tonight is the magical night. I have agreed to be a friend's "shot buddy". I have been deemed sane enough to take a rather large needle and jab it into her upper buttock. So what makes me qualified? Hmmm...I've given myself about 1000 injections, went through shot training, watched numerous videos...heck, I've even injected another friend, but the first time is always...hmmm...interesting. If things go well, I'm committed to doing this for about 12-14 weeks....which I'm looking forward too, but...I just want the first one done with already!

02-11-2010 - Gems I need to remember...AKA...Learn These Things

All of us as parents need to find a way to have the proper tension between developing a good relationship with our child and understanding yes we do represent authority and we will establish boundaries...
- For when I have the kids all by myself or when I become a stay at home mommy....First, always take a shower and get ready for the day. Second, stop watching too much TV. (even if you have it on as background noise...the kids will get sucked in) Third, create a schedule for yourself.

- One of the best things parents can do is hug their baby and say I love you and I remember where you are and I will be back.  Turn and leave....Do not look back.  Do not linger.  Do not pass go and collect $200.

 - The best thing for parents to do...(and I sometimes get parents saying no--no that doesn’t make sense because it sounds like you are condoning it) ...the best thing to do is ignore the behavior if it is non destructive.   If they are injuring themselves or kicking your walls or doing something that is hostile you can’t ignore it.  If they are just pitching a fit on the floor screaming and hollering ignore it and walk out of the room.

- Like it or not, children want to be just like their parents. If I want my son to be respectful of his elders, speak with kindness, and think before he speaks, then I must learn to be a good example.

- If you have a preschooler who is resisting going to bed at night there is a reason for that.  You are the center of the universe to them and they don’t want to be separated from the action.  Most self respecting preschoolers are going to stall and fiddle around and resist going to bed.  It’s not pleasant but it is normal behavior.  At least you know your child is typical.  For my daughter, money talked.  In the preschool years she would get a whole quarter for her allowance.  I remember saying to her one time, “Laura if you get out of bed again I’m going to have to take a quarter out of your bank.”  Well, like a self respecting preschooler she had to push the envelope and she jumped out of bed.  But mom is a promise keeper and I said, “Laura I’m sorry that you chose to get out of bed now I’m going to have to take that quarter.”
And she hopped back in bed and did the “I’m in bed now” thing that kids do because they want you to back pedal and I said, “I told you I’d have to take a quarter for you getting out of bed and you chose to get out of bed.”  I went over and shook a quarter out of her piggy bank and walked out of the room with that coin in my hand feeling like a big creep. But guess what?  She never got out of bed again because she trusted my words.  She knew I meant what I said.

- You eat or you don’t and if you don’t the consequence is that you get hungry but parents have to allow that consequence to happen and not rescue the child by an hour later fixing a meal for them.Your job is to present the food and make sure it is healthy.  Their job is to eat it or not.  It’s very simple.  You don’t have to cross over the line and do their job for them and beg or trick them to eat.

- Spanking is giving a child a measured amount of pain in close association with something that they have done wrong.  The problem with spanking – the reason that it’s so often criticized, and justly so is because parents often are out of control with their children.  It’s not a measured amount of pain, it’s not thought through ahead of time.   So there’s a vast difference between abusive, physical harm to a child, and a measured amount of pain that’s administered by a loving parent.
